4 Essential Tips for Holiday Vehicle Prep

1. Have a professional check your fluid levels: Although this seems as such an easy enough task, there is a safety risk if not performed properly. Our certified technicians can check your fluid levels, and the systems they control.
We recommend checking Brake Fluid, Coolant Fluid, Power Steering, Transmission and Windshield Washer Fluid in addition to Motor Oil.
2. Ensure Proper Tire Care: The only think keeping your vehicle safely on the road is your tires. During the Holiday Season, the additional wear from the extra workload increase the chances of irregular and premature wear if your tires are not properly inflated you run the risk of overloading them. Be sure to have your tires, alignment, suspension and steering components all checked out to make sure they are in good condition.
3. On Schedule Oil & Filter Changes: There’s nothing like a well-oiled machine to ensure safety and longevity on the road. Next to you, trust us when we say regular oil changes are your vehicles best friend. Oil changes are the least expensive form of maintenance you can do to maximize engine life and reduce repairs.
4. Check your battery, test the heater, lights and wipers: Checking your battery before it fails, will save you additional stress during the holiday season. While checking your battery, take a few minutes to test your heat. Nothing is worse than finding out your heat isn’t working when it’s chilly outside. In addition, check your interior and exterior lights to ensure everything is working properly. Lastly, no matter what Mother Nature throws your way, you’re going to need to see the road. Test your wiper blades for signs of wear and replace if necessary.
We want you to enjoy your Holiday Trips to see family and friends, without worrying about any vehicle problems that could arise. We recommend following these tips for stress free travel this Holiday Season. Enjoy your Holidays!
Tips for Driving to Grandma’s for Thanksgiving

The day of the week, the time of day and the weather are all factors in determining how safe your Thanksgiving drive will be. We’ve listed several tips, so that you can make it as easy as it needs to be:
Take off work early. Wednesday and Sunday are the busiest days to travel during the Thanksgiving holiday. If you have a few extra vacation days, consider starting your Thanksgiving travel on Monday or Tuesday.
Take your car in for a check up. Schedule Service with us, so that you can be assured you’re ready for the road.
• Perform basic maintenance. Check wipers, fluid levels, change your oil.
• Check your battery and inspect your tires for proper inflation and tread depth. And don’t forget about your spare tire.
• Have your brakes inspected.
Slow Down and Enjoy the Trip. Expect to hit traffic and for your trip to take longer than normal. By building in extra time to reach your destination, you’ll minimize the stress on everyone.
Avoid distracted driving. You should always be attentive and alert when driving. Consider pulling off the road to eat, make a phone call, or to send a text message.
Keep a safe following distance. If you drive during the day or in good weather conditions, it’s best to leave a three-second gap between you and the car in front of you.
Make sure you have your charging cords. While more and more cars are manufactured with touch screens, many of us still don’t have this feature.
Don’t eat turkey and drive.
What To Do If Your Car Overheats

When you are driving around in your car, one of the most common yet easily avoided problems can be overheating of the vehicle. Should this happen to you it can be a source of worry, frustration and confusion. Thankfully, dealing with an overheated car isn’t quite as challenging as it might sound: when managed in the right way, in fact, it can be pretty easy to administer. Let’s take a look at what that might entail.
If you are worried about overheating, or it has happened before and you had no solution, you should try and implement the following:
• Look for Steam. Steam is the obvious sign – no smoke without fire, and no heat without steam. If you see steam pouring out, then you have an engine that cannot handle itself. Steam is not something that you should just ignore – and it certainly isn’t something that you should expect to see.
• Lower The Temperature. Next, be sure to turn off the A/C unit and then turn on your heating unit. That might sound counterproductive, but turning up the heating to full directs heat from the engine to elsewhere. Just make sure you avoid this on a sunny day – you might melt! Being serious for a moment, though, your vehicle’s health and safety is far more important than feeling a touch too warm for a few moments.
• Shut Off The Engine. A no-brainer, but getting the engine off nice and fast is pretty important, too. You should look to do this as it stops your car from heating up more and gives the engine a nice little breather in the first place. If you are not comfortable with the next step, then get out your phone and get some roadside assistance to help.
• Get It Cooled. Pop up the hood of your car, and you should immediately feel a waft of heat hitting you. Also, only open up the hood if you feel like you can either handle the heat or that it does not feel too dangerous. This is very important, as going in too early can be just as dangerous as doing nothing at all.
• Look For Coolants. Now, your vehicle should have a coolant section near the radiator. Typically, this will be made of plastic and is going to be SUPER HOT so don’t just grab onto it or you’ll need a trip to the hospital, stat. Check the coolant gauge, too, and see where it sits – is it normal? Or has it risen to a level that has your eyebrows raised? If it’s low or empty, then you might have a problem. This is the part where most people make the problem worse, so if you are not confident call in an expert to help. Really, the best bet to avoid any kind of disaster is to hire some kind of roadside assistance. There’s no point taking risks if you are unsure, so be safe!
How to Summerize Your Car

It’s summertime and that calls for being out and about more on the roads. Are you planning a summer road trip, traveling on the weekends to your summer cabin or spending your evenings out enjoying the hot summer nights?
It’s time to think about your vehicle and the seasonal maintenance it might need. Here are some tips to ensure safe summer driving this August:
1. Beat the Heat. Your cars cooling system is critical to your summer driving so make sure to give it extra care through the season.
2. Air Conditioning. Make sure your air conditioning won’t quit cooling for you this summer, inspect the system for any worn out, damaged belts and that it’s clear of any debris.
3. Summer Tread. Opt for All Weather tires or get some summer tires on your vehicle. You’ll get more speed, better handling and better fuel efficiency with the right tires.
4. Brake Check. Summer weather patterns can bring all sorts of weather. You’ll want to make sure your brakes are in check and ready to go for what summer weather may bring. Hot weather can also cause brake pads to wear more quickly so keep tabs on yours and make sure they are in good shape.
Last but not least we hope you are enjoying this summer season and don’t forget those sunglasses!

Tips to Stop Distracted Driving

Did you know that distracted driving is becoming the leading cause of traffic accidents? According to the National Safety Council, as many as 40,000 people died in auto accidents last year, which is the highest number since 2007.
One factor that contributes to this statistic is the increasing number of people who own smartphones. Whether it’s texting, talking, eating – or anything that takes the driver’s attention off the road, a crash can be the unfortunate result of that.
The good news is that there are a few simple steps you can take to keep yourself safer on the road:
1. Don’t use your phone while driving. If you have to make a call, make sure to link your vehicle’s hands-free system ahead of time if it’s equipped with one. Do check your local laws and regulations on what’s allowed.
2. Plan ahead and allow extra time so you’re not in a rush. If you’re using GPS to navigate, be aware that it may not always be accurate due to road construction or other factors.
3. Observe speed limits. Going over the speed limit means that it takes more time to make an emergency stop, which means you’re more likely to get into an accident.
4. Have a plan in case of an accident. Be sure to carry an up-to-date insurance card, and print out an accident report form like this one and keep it in your glove compartment.

Spring Car Care Tips!

Here comes the sun and rising temperatures, which means an entirely different strategy for car care. Here are six simple tips to help you care for your vehicle as we make way for spring!!
1. Wash and Wax
One of the single most important things as spring starts. Allowing debris and grime to build up on your car can affect its paint and finish.
2. Clean the Inside, Too
Nobody wants to spend time cleaning out their car during a cold winter day. That’s why spring is the perfect time to clean your car’s interior, Spring Cleaning we like to call it. Remove and throw away any trash and other items that have accumulated in your vehicle over the winter.
3. Check Your Tire Pressures
As air gets warmer again in the spring, tire pressures can increase; If the pressure increases past your manufacturer specification (because you added air during the winter), it can seriously affect your car’s drivability and fuel economy.
4. Inspect Your Wiper Blades
As spring starts and temperatures warm up, check your wiper blades for any signs of wear. The wiper itself could wear dramatically over the winter due to ice buildup or other issues on your windshield.
5. Check Under the Hood
Do a thorough check under your hood to make sure your car’s engine made it through the winter without problems including checking your fluids. Specifically, check belts and hoses to ensure the cold temperatures haven’t rendered them brittle or heavily worn.
6. Check Alignment and Suspension
If you find yourself frequently traveling roads with huge potholes or rocks that have emerged from the asphalt, it could ruin your car’s alignment or damage suspension components. We advise that if you’ve taken your car to a mechanic to check under the hood, ask for a quick suspension and alignment check to make sure nothing is too far outside the manufacturer’s specifications.
Happy Spring!
SPRING DRIVING TIPS

Spring time brings rain and the after effects of winter weather, potholes and uneven pavement.
Keep these driving tips in mind before you travel:•Spring showers bring May flowers – and wet driving conditions. Slow down on slick roads, and increase your following distance even when mist begins to fall. Just a small amount of water can mix with oil and grease on the road to create slippery conditions.
•Share the road. Warm weather brings out motorcyclists, bicyclists and pedestrians.
•Understand the impact of medications on driving: For many people, spring means seasonal allergies. Over-the-counter allergy drugs can have side effects or interact with other medications to diminish your driving ability
•If possible, go around potholes.
•Deep potholes can throw your car out of alignment or worse, forcing you to buy a new wheel and a new tire. You may be able to file a claim (laws differ from city to city and state to state), but you you’ll likely have to prove negligence on the part of the city.
•Avoid driving through large puddles. Driving through water can impair your brakes, cloud your vision, or cause you to hydroplane.
•Keep your tires properly inflated. Full tires can reduce the damage caused by potholes and other road hazards.

2018 Silverado

The 2018 Chevrolet Silverado is a rather interesting model, and is the culmination of close to a century of work from Chevrolet. This pick-up is, to many, the pinnacle of their work and probably as close to ‘perfect’ as you are likely to get on the road at this moment in time.
The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is a very impressive piece of hardware. It’s very capable of handling all ‘pickup-y’ tasks and is the true definition of American strength, energy and gusto. It’s very powerful, thanks to the inclusion of a 6.2l V8 engine ensuring that it gives you a whopping 420BHP of power. Add in the ability to tow 12,500 pounds and this is an absolute workhorse of a machine.
The latest edition to the ‘family’ adds some nice new features, if a little low-key in terms of new add-ons. For example, it now brings a back-up camera and also a new tire pressure monitor that gives you a clearly audible warning alert when it seems like air pressure is not at the level that it should be.
Also, it can be a semi-hybrid electric if you would prefer to do so. If you are looking to go eco-friendlier then this might be the place to start. Add in the fact this comes with nice add-ons and trims due to it being a centenary edition and it is very easy to see why so many people are in such a positive moo about the latest version of the Silverado in its current form.
Pros-It is very strong. If you are looking for a pick-up that can handle the weight without issue, then this is one for you.-It’s durable and has plenty of space inside. If you feel rather cramped up in other pick-ups,-this can offer you exactly what you need.-The information systems on the dashboard are super-simple to work with, making this a piece of cake to drive around in.
Cons-The seats can begin to leave you feeling rather uncomfortable after a few hours. If you find that you are sitting down and doing a lot of driving, maybe grab a cushion!-The ride itself is quite large and chunky. It looks good, but it’s not got that smashing style that you would be used to seeing from a pick-up in the modern world. Efficient, but rough aesthetically.
Overall, this new version of the truck is a very impressive piece of kit. It adds a lot of nice improvements over previous models, but maintains that he kind of features that makes it stand out so much in the first place.
It’s a high quality and reliable piece of hardware that definitely delivers on the factors and features that you would most definitely expect. That being said, it’s also a powerful towing truck and offers functionality.
If you are not looking for something that is all about the look, which this lacks a little even with the centenary add-ons, then the Silverado is a very good choice for just about any requirement you have.
